Watching Internet on your TV
Sony, Panasonic and Sharp introduced their latest technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas: a TV set with built-in web browser. Samsung introduced a TV set that can read RSS feeds. Watching TV on a computer is nothing new, but a web-enabled TV set is! Also, the manufacturers seemed to have made agreements with content providers: Panasonic has YouTube content, Sharp has Yahoo!, and Sony made a deal with CBS. Of course, with these TV sets people can search the entire internet, but when you switch on the TV, it automatically directs you a homepage, with ‘suggestions’ of what to watch. By suggesting content, you can manipulate what viewers will watch, much like Google and Microsoft are doing on the web nowadays. Traditional TV stations are being bypassed more and more by the internet. Needless to say, this offers huge possibilities for advertisers!
